Asset Actions - Moving Assets

Moving assets between workspaces is crucial for transferring ownership and managing asset visibility effectively. This feature streamlines the relocation of assets, including associated components, dependencies, and exposures, from one workspace to another.

Example: If asset XYZ in Workspace A is mapped to a different workspace, the owner can move it to the new workspace. The users of Workspace A will no longer view asset XYZ or perform any actions from their workspace. The users of the new workspace (with the required privileges) can view and manage the asset. Thus, this feature limits visibility and management to the appropriate workspace.

This article outlines the steps involved in moving assets and highlights important considerations to ensure a smooth transition while upholding data integrity and security.

Steps to Move an Asset:

  1. Select the Asset:
  1. Start by navigating to the table and identifying the asset you intend to move.
  2. Click on the checkbox next to the asset to highlight it for the upcoming transfer.
  3. To move multiple assets at once, click the checkbox next to the assets.

  1. Click the Move Icon:
    1. Once the desired asset is selected, locate and click on the "Move" icon. This action initiates the process of transferring the asset to a different workspace.

  1. Provide Relevant Details:
    1. A dialog box will appear, prompting you to enter the relevant information for the asset transfer. This is where you can define the workspace and group to which you want to move the asset.

Note: Additionally, any dependent assets, associations, and exposures related to the selected asset will be listed in this dialog box. They will also move to the new workspace along with the asset.

  1. Select Target Workspace:
    1. From the dropdown menu, choose the workspace to which you want to move the asset. The dropdown will contain only the workspaces  you have access to. This selection determines the new location and ownership of the asset within the organization's structure.

You can also create a new workspace and move the asset. To do this, simply type the workspace name, and click Create "workspace name".

Create a New Workspace

A new workspace will be created and the assets moved to it.

  1. Specify Workspace Group:
    1. Choose the group to which the chosen workspace belongs. The groups auto-populate based on previous configurations.

  1. Add a Reason:
    1. Provide a reason for moving the asset. This explanation helps track and understand the rationale behind asset transfers.

  1. Initiate the Move:
  1. Once all details are accurately filled, click the "Move" button to initiate the asset transfer process.
  2. The process duration may vary depending on the number of assets and exposures involved.

Once the process is complete, the assets will appear under the Assets Dashboard of the new workspace.

  1. Visibility and Access: After the asset has been successfully moved, it will no longer be visible in the original workspace. You can perform any actions related to the asset, such as changing criticality levels or resolving associated exposures, as long as you have access to it.
  1. Dependent Assets: If any dependent assets were newly created for the main asset, they would be automatically available in the new workspace to which the main asset was moved. This ensures that all related components remain accessible and properly organized.

Move Privilege: Only the owner of an asset holds the privilege to move the asset to another workspace. The Move icon will be disabled in the new workspace.
