Seeds and Scans: A Comprehensive Asset Discovery Guide
Seeds and Scans: A Comprehensive Asset Discovery Guide
In our newly designed platform, you have the flexibility to add various types of seeds to your account for asset discovery. These seeds serve as the starting points for your scans and allow you to monitor different asset classes independently. Here are the seed types available:
- Host (including IP): You can add individual hosts, including their IP addresses, as seeds, which is particularly useful for monitoring specific devices and their vulnerabilities.
- Domain: Domains are the foundation of web addresses. Adding domains as seeds allows you to explore assets associated with specific websites, making it easy to track domain-related threats.
- URL: URLs represent the specific web addresses of individual pages or resources. By adding URLs as seeds, you can focus on monitoring particular web pages for potential vulnerabilities.
- API: APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) are crucial for modern applications. Adding APIs as seeds helps you monitor and secure the APIs your applications rely on.
- Netblock: Netblocks are a range of IP addresses. Monitoring netblocks allows you to gain insights into the broader infrastructure and identify potential threats within specific IP ranges.
- ASN (Autonomous System Number): ASNs are essential for internet routing. Adding ASNs as seeds enables you to monitor the routing infrastructure and connected assets within a specific Autonomous System.
Scan Flow for Different Seed Types
To help you understand how scans flow for each of these seed types, we've created the following image:
By understanding the scan flow for each seed type, you can tailor your asset discovery process to focus on what matters most to your security efforts. This adaptability is a crucial feature of our new platform design, providing more control and precision in your asset monitoring.
